Summer is normally a time when happy memories are made but if you’ve lost a loved one, it can be a time when their loss feels even greater.

We would like to welcome both Dove House supporters and the wider community to this years’ virtual Summer Memories service, and hope you can join us from afar to celebrate those who hold a very special place in our hearts and minds.

When times are tough, under normal circumstances we would turn to our loved ones when we need a comforting hug or hand to hold. Instead, we have had to rely on video chats and phone calls for the past year. This has been difficult for many of us, but it has taught us the importance of keeping connected to our family and friends, and making sure we continue to support and look out for each other.

The moving yet uplifting Summer Memories ceremony will be available to watch on the Dove House Facebook and YouTube channels from 12pm Saturday 26 June. The service will feature beautiful readings and poems, as well as wonderful musical performances from a number of talented local musicians.

The rainbow has become an important symbol of hope and faith to many of us. For every person who is remembered as part of the Summer Memories appeal a ribbon, personalised with their name, will be displayed in the hospice’s Memory Garden. Your special tributes to your loved ones will form a stunning Rainbow of Ribbons, and add more colour to our already beautiful and contemplative space.

When you remember someone special, you will receive a dedication pack in the post before the ceremony takes place. This will contain a personalised ribbon, a unique Summer Memories badge, a packet of Wildflower seeds which you can plant in memory of your loved one, and an order of service to help you follow the ceremony from the comfort of your own home.

We hope that you will be able to join us for a ceremony of rainbows, music and memories, and celebrate our love for those we have lost. We hope that it brings light to difficult times, and signifies hope for us all that better things are just around the corner.
