Children’s worry monster drawing come to life!

What is a worry monster?
A worry monster is designed to help a child discuss their worries or reduce their worrying. Children can draw or write their worry onto a piece of paper and then ‘feed’ it to their worry monster. Once the monster has eaten it, the worry can be discussed and shared with an adult.
What is the benefit of a worry monster?
Worry monsters are there to help your little one to acknowledge, express and let go of their worries and anxieties. Worry monsters can be a supportive friends who will listen to, munch up, and cuddle away worries.
At the hospice, our worry monsters are kindly made and donated by fantastic supporters who volunteer their time to support the hospice.

A recent group of children who had been accessing support at the hospice were tasked with designing their very own worry monsters.

A wonderful staff member’s Mum then crocheted the unique worry monsters and brought their designs alive, and they are incredible. Each child was so overjoyed with their special worry monster they made thank you cards to show their appreciation.

Beth, our Family Support Team Social Worker who has been supporting the family shares with us:

“The children’s grandad has since passed away at the hospice so their very own worry monsters will certainly be needed to help them with their grief. Without wonderful people like this lady, we wouldn’t be able to offer worry monsters to children who come to the hospice. We cannot thank her enough. The difference they make is crucial in a young person’s journey before and after a bereavement.”

Staff and volunteers use these in different ways to bring a smile to patients and their families.

We don't have a specific pattern for our Love Hearts or Worry Monsters, so please use your creativity.
