The Hull Detective

When a retired police detective’s granddaughter is kidnapped, he has little option but to help his former colleagues by returning to his old life to help them to solve the crime. In a letter sent to his family home, sent by the kidnapper there is an element of a taunt for a failure to deliver justice in a previous case. On receipt of the anonymous communication DCI Joe Distell wracks his brain to try and determine who might have sent the letter.

By doing this he may be able to identify the kidnapper. Luckily for Distell a haunch proves to be correct and he is able to pin down the kidnapper and in doing so save his granddaughter. Months after this event Distell is contacted by a former colleague a current Detective Chief Inspector in Humberside Police who asks him if he could review a cold case. He agrees to help his former colleagues.

The first case is the sudden disappearance, six months ago, of a small-time Hull based criminal called Alan Silby. So begins the search for Silby and any clues to tell the police what may have happened to him. Distell conducts a number of enquirers throughout Silby’s old stamping ground in and around the northern side of the city of Hull. He soon discovers a number of clues which may account for Silby’s disappearance. On completion of the Silby case Distell is asked if he would like to case review several other cold cases that are high on the list of unsolved cases throughout the Hull and Humberside area. Therefore, begins a quest for answers to solve several cold cases.

There are twelve stories in this book. They range from missing person inquiries to unfathomable disappearances to murder and intrigue. All of them fall into the category of old cases that have turned cold after been on the books for some time.
