Hull Through The Decades
Celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Hull Civic Society, a new film charting how Hull has changed from the 1960s to present day is now available with proceeds being raised in support of Dove House Hospice.

Launched by Hull Civic Society, it has been compiled by keen amateur filmmaker, Ian Wolstencroft. Mixing his own footage with archive film, Hull Through The Decades celebrates the uniqueness of Hull and its heritage in film and pictures.

Ian Wolstencroft is a committee member at Hull Civic Society, which was formed 60 years ago, in the same year that saw the demise of the city’s trolleybuses and the closure of the Hull to Hornsea/Withernsea rail links. He said: “We start with stunning drone footage around Hull from Octovision Media; then we take a journey down memory lane to the 1960s, with rare archive film of the city centre, Hull trolleybuses in their prime, ride a train to Hornsea and back, plus the fishing industry, it’s all here.”

Featuring many aspects of Hull's rich history and sporting achievements, the film is almost two hours long and available online for you to download and share on your various devices. Highlights include:
  • 1970s - Decimalisation, what we had/owned, with many nostalgic pictures
  • 1980s - All change with pedestrianisation, new roads and the opening of the Humber Bridge by Queen Elizabeth II in 1981
  • 1990s – New shopping centre Princes Quay, a cruise up the River Hull, with five bridges opening
  • 2000 to 2025 - City of Culture years, opening of St Stephen’s Shopping Centre and lots more
