Exercise for Wellbeing Group

An opportunity to participate in some gentle exercise to improve your wellbeing

Who can attend?

This group is open to anyone who is independently mobile, with or without a mobility aid, and living with a life limiting illness or long term condition. This includes people with both cancer and non-cancer diagnoses.

Following a referral, you will be asked to attend an initial one to one physiotherapy assessment to see if the group is suitable for you.

What can I expect from each session?

The sessions will contain educational talks, a warm up and cool down, chair based group exercise and use of our gym equipment as part of a gentle circuit-based individualised programme. This may change week to week depending on how you are and you will be given an activity diary to record your progress. Prior to attending your first group session you will also be given some questionnaires to complete to help us determine your goals and outcomes.

What shall I wear?

Comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely and sensible shoes or trainers.

How often can I come?

You can attend up to 12 sessions. These will be for approximately 1hr and held twice weekly for 6 weeks. After that we will invite you to attend one social session for you to chat with other group members and the physiotherapy team.

What if I have other questions?

During the sessions there will be opportunities to ask any questions. If you have ongoing difficulties please speak to a member of the team who can arrange an individual appointment for you if necessary. We will also discuss the whole process with you before you start attending the group.

How can I be referred?

Ask one of your health professionals to contact us, or you can self-refer via the medical secretary team on 01482 784343 ext 300, 301 or 302. If you require any further information about this group, please contact Nikki Sawyers, Wellbeing Therapy Assistant on ext 371.
