Here at Dove House Hospice we provide specialist care to adults in Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire with life limiting illnesses such as cancer, neurological illnesses, heart diseases and respiratory diseases. We provide three main types of care: pain and symptom management, respite care and end of life care which is delivered by a multi-disciplinary team including consultants, doctors, nurses, therapists and social workers.

We help local people in many different ways and have a person-centred approach where the patient, not the illness, is at the heart of our care. This means we treat every one as an individual, getting to know the needs of them and their family and tailoring our approach accordingly. Two patients with the same illness may access different services at the hospice dependent on what they need and what helps them.

We can support a patient early in their journey of terminal illness, the hospice is not simply a place where people come to live their final days and we encourage early referrals – the sooner we are involved in a patient’s care the more help we can give. As experts in palliative care, which is the total care of a patient whose illness is no longer curable and for whom the goal must be quality of life, we have a positive approach aiming to ensure that for everyone we look after, life is as full of life as it can be.

From accessing outpatients’ appointments with doctors to receiving 24-hour care on our Inpatient Unit, from getting help from one of our therapy teams to getting emotional support from our Family Support Team there is the right service, or combination of services, for anyone who needs it.
