You have will have recently received an end of year communication from us regarding the Gift Aid we have claimed on your donations.

Why are the amounts on the email/letter less than I expected?

There may be a few reasons why the amounts are lower than you thought they would be:

It may be due to how we store and sell donated items after they are sorted in the shops. When a donation is made we sort the stock by the season and therefore something that you have donated may not have been sold yet.

You may have a duplicate record in our system, meaning some of your donations were mistakenly linked to the duplicate MyCard number. That record then received the required communications instead of your main one. We’re working with our till provider to merge duplicate records so this doesn’t happen in future.

Some of this may be due to human error, where not all of your donations were recorded as Gift Aid. They were still sold and raised funds for the hospice, but we weren’t able to claim Gift Aid on them, and unfortunately we can’t track those specific sales in our system at this stage.

Why is my MyCard number different on the email/letter to the one I scan in the shop when I donate?

This may be because you have a duplicate record on our system. We are working with our till provider to merge duplicate records to stop this happening in the future.

Do I need to do anything after receiving this email/letter?

No, you don’t need to do anything unless you want to update any of your contact details or let us know you are no longer eligible to Gift Aid donations made to us.

Do I need to contact HMRC?

You only need to contact HMRC if you believe you have not paid enough tax to cover the amount of Gift Aid we have claimed in the tax year 2025/26. You may wish to keep your email/letter to use in any Tax Self-Assessments you need to complete.

What should I do if the email/letter has been sent to someone who has died?

We are really sorry that we have sent this letter and for any upset it may have caused. It’s really important that you contact us with the name and address of the person we have written to so we can update our records accordingly.
It’s also really important that you do not use their MyCard when you make any donations to the hospice in the future, if you are eligible to Gift Aid your donations we would be happy to set you up your own MyCard Gift Aid account.

Is it worth me Gift Aiding my donations, what difference does it make to Dove House?

Gift Aid is hugely important to the hospice and in 2025/26 an additional £448,000 was claimed through the scheme off of donations to our shops. Across the region there are over 49,000 people signed up to the scheme and every donation adds up to make this fantastic amount for local people needing hospice care.
