Keith's Volunteer story

Hello, my name is Keith, and I’ve been volunteering at the Dove House charity shop in Hornsea for the past four years.

With a background in retail and management, I felt I had plenty of skills to offer when I first joined the team. But what really stood out to me from day one was the sense of belonging. At Dove House, you’re not just a volunteer, you’re part of a team that truly cares.

For me, the most important part of volunteering is knowing that the work I do helps support the hospice in providing comfort and dignity to people at the end of their lives. That’s what really motivates me. It’s a privilege to be able to contribute in some small way to such vital care, and I find it incredibly rewarding.

A typical day in the shop involves making sure everything is tidy and well-stocked, and setting up an eye-catching window display to draw people in. It’s hands-on, varied, and there’s always a great atmosphere.

If you’re thinking about volunteering, I’d wholeheartedly recommend Dove House. You’ll gain new skills, meet great people, and be part of something truly meaningful.
