It is with great sadness that we inform you that the Chair of our Board of Trustees, Janet Weatherill, died unexpectedly last week after a short illness.
Janet was a lovely lady who was well known in the community for her many years of public service and charitable work. She embodied the values and ethos of Dove House and was passionate about advocating the work of the hospice to the wider community. Janet joined the team at the hospice as a volunteer Receptionist nearly 20 years ago, a role which she still maintained, and went on to volunteer in Fundraising and on the Inpatient Unit alongside becoming a Trustee. As Chair of the Board from 2014, Janet led with dignity and devotion and was fundamental in establishing the strong strategic foundations which Dove House operates on today. In her role as Chair Janet made time for everyone here and got to know the whole hospice team whether based at the main site or out in the shops.
Our Chief Executive Anna Wolkowski paid tribute: “Janet’s fellow trustees and all of us across Dove House are absolutely devastated at this news. Our hospice weeps for the loss of such a great chairman and such a really lovely person. Our thoughts and prayers are with her devoted husband Peter, himself a much loved volunteer at Dove House, and also their family at this terribly sad time.”
Everyone at the hospice is deeply shocked at this great loss to our team and Dove House will be continuing to honour Janet’s memory in the coming weeks. Please do look out for further tributes to Janet who worked so tirelessly and selflessly for the good of our hospice.
