We are very proud of our colleague Clint Leach who won the Access to Learning and Care Services Learner of the Year at the HTAE Awards 2018. He is the first adult learner to win the award. We caught up with Clint to find out what inspired him to study and his plans for the future.

Four years ago, after being made redundant as a joiner Clint decided to retrain. ‘I knew I wanted to change career but wasn’t sure what to choose. I remembered looking after my granddad who had dementia whilst I was at college, my brother and I moved in with him so we could share the caring. It was hard work but rewarding. That’s when I decided to study Health and Social Care.’

Clint has been studying whilst working for the last 4 years and finished his Health and Care level 3 six months early. His tutor was so impressed by his dedication and transformation she nominated him for the award. Starting as Bank Care Assistant, Clint is now a permanent member of the team and loves working at Dove House. ‘I came to work on the bank two and a half years ago and straight away I knew I didn’t want to work anywhere else. The team is wonderful, like a big family. I can be myself and I feel supported all the time’. Clint is committed to continuing his learning ‘If it makes me a better carer, then I’m happy to do it’.
