Frances's volunteer story
I started volunteering for Dove House over ten years ago. At the time I had been made redundant and had some free time and I knew of the great work that the hospice did and still does now.
I give my time in the events and fundraising departments which can involve anything from filling envelopes and sorting collection boxes to sending Thank You cards, and much, much more! On event days I might be registering participants, serving refreshments, or marshaling – the events are great fun too.
Knowing I am making a difference every time I step foot in the hospice is by far the best part of volunteering for me. Everyone is super friendly and we have so many laughs. They really make you feel like you are part of the team and that my time is valued.
The highlight for me is if I hadn’t been volunteering at the hospice I wouldn’t have known about the Trek in the Himalayas which I took part in. It really wouldn’t have been on my radar but I am so glad it was as it was such an incredible experience.
