The Flower Box, Beverley – Turning flowers into hope and support for Dove House

Tucked just outside a family home in Beverley, The Flower Box is a small but beautifully heartwarming project that’s blossomed into something truly special. What began as a simple idea, selling rescued flowers through an honesty box, has grown into a thriving community effort that raises money for local and national charities, including Dove House Hospice.
Run entirely by volunteers, The Flower Box is made up of two wooden structures filled with vibrant blooms available for the public to buy using an honesty system. Every bouquet, posy, and display has a story behind it, because every flower has been rescued, recycled, and lovingly given a second life.
The team at The Flower Box work closely with local businesses, wedding venues, couples, funeral directors, and families to rescue flowers that would otherwise go to waste, sometimes even ending up as animal feed. Instead, these flowers are carefully conditioned and transformed into beautiful arrangements.
Nothing goes unused; petals from flowers that can’t be repurposed are dried and turned into biodegradable confetti, which is also sold to raise funds for charity. It’s a perfect example of sustainability and kindness in action, giving beauty back to both the planet and the people who need support the most.
Every month, proceeds from The Flower Box are donated to Children with Cancer UK and Beverley Cherry Tree Community Centre, with an additional charity chosen each month to spread awareness and support even further.
Many visitors to The Flower Box have experienced loss or grief, so the team make sure to support organisations close to people’s hearts.
Dove House Hospice is honoured to be one of the nominated charities for January, with a special focus on
Dove House’s Roots of Support Children’s Bereavement Service during December. Funds raised that month will be ringfenced to support children and families as they navigate grief and find comfort through our bereavement services.
Over the past three years, The Flower Box has flourished thanks to the generosity of the local community and the dedication of volunteers who help prepare flowers during busy times. Together, they’ve created something that not only brings joy to visitors but also makes a real difference to countless lives.
Alongside their daily flower sales, The Flower Box also runs an annual Christmas wreath workshop and has created a 2026 calendar (available for £10) to raise even more money for their chosen charities.
