Grief Awareness Week & looking after yourself this Christmas

As we mark Grief Awareness Week this December, we know that the festive season can be one of the most difficult times of year for anyone living with loss. While many people are celebrating, others are navigating a Christmas that looks very different, and that’s okay. At Dove House, we want to remind you that you’re not alone.
If you’re finding the season difficult, here are a few ways to look after yourself:

  • Acknowledge your feelings – Grief doesn’t follow the calendar. Whether you feel sad, numb, or even moments of joy, every emotion is valid.
  • Set your own pace – It’s okay to step back from traditions that feel too painful, or to create new ones that honour your loved one in a way that feels right.
  • Reach out – Spending time with someone who understands or talking to a member of our Family Support Team, can bring comfort and ease feelings of isolation.
  • Be gentle with yourself – Rest when you need to, ask for help when things feel heavy, and allow space for your wellbeing.

If you or someone you know would benefit from support this Christmas, you can find details of our bereavement services on our website or by contacting the hospice directly. Dove House is here to walk alongside you, this week, this Christmas, and for as long as you need us.
