Children's Grief Awareness Week 2025
This November, Dove House is proud to support Children’s Grief Awareness Week (17th–23rd November), a time to shine a light on the experiences of bereaved children and young people, and to remind them that they are never alone.
This year’s theme, “Sharing Stories, Strengthening Hope,” encourages everyone to open up about bereavement and the strength that can grow from it.
At Dove House we have a dedicated, in-house Roots of Support Children’s Bereavement Service ran by Jill and Sarah. They enable children to process, talk about and understand their bereavement and do so at their own rate. Our team have supported over 800 children since the beginning of the service in 2019, committing their time to young people in Hull and East Yorkshire. Without the incredible work of this team, our Family Support Team would not be able to accommodate the need for children’s support in our local community.
At Dove House, the work of the Child Bereavement Service will always be a vital part of our culture and presence in the local community. We thank both Jill and Becca for their efforts with young people who have experienced bereavement, they are always grateful for your support.
Through our Roots of Support Children’s Bereavement Service, we see every day how powerful it can be when children are given the space to talk, remember, and find hope after loss.
Matt, a dad supported by our service, told us:
“The sessions gave my boys a safe space to talk about their mum, things they couldn’t share with me. I’ll always be grateful for the difference it made.”
And Tommy, a young person who accessed bereavement support, said:
“At first, I bottled everything up, but after talking to Jill, I felt calmer and more able to share how I felt. It made such a huge difference.”
Their stories remind us why this week matters, and why continued support is so vital.
