Children's Grief Awareness Week 2024

From the 18th to 24th November, we supported national Children’s Grief Awareness Week. Each year the annual event has a key theme, 2024 was the year of #BuildingHope for bereaved children and young people. Over the course of the week, we shared various posts to social media in aid of the cause and to showcase the amazing work we do at the hospice for bereaved children.

At Dove House we have a dedicated, in-house Child Bereavement Service ran by Jill and Becca. They enable children to process, talk about and understand their bereavement and do so at their own rate. Our team have supported over 800 children since the beginning of the service in 2019, committing their time to young people in Hull and East Yorkshire. Without the incredible work of this team, our Family Support Team would not be able to accommodate the need for children’s support in our local community.

During Children’s Grief Awareness Week, Becca attended an event as a representative for Dove House in the child bereavement sector. Hull Royal Infirmary gathered local organisations to promote their services for bereaved children and young people, giving organisations the opportunity to speak to the public. Over Thursday and Friday, she was able to share her knowledge and the wonderful work of our Child Bereavement Service.

At Dove House, the work of the Child Bereavement Service will always be a vital part of our culture and presence in the local community. We thank both Jill and Becca for their efforts with young people who have experienced bereavement, they are always grateful for your support.
