The gift of a nutritious meal - £10

A nourishing, wholesome meal can improve a patient’s health and sense of wellbeing. Our patients gain strength and comfort from home cooked food prepared fresh on site in our A grade kitchen. We offer patients the freedom to choose from a variety of tasty meals, similar to those they might eat at home. Meal times are not imposed, a patient has the freedom to dine as and when they would at home, giving a sense of control and normality.

The gift of relaxation - £20

Making the decision to refer yourself or a loved one to a hospice can be one of the most stressful times for patients, relatives and friends. We help alleviate anxiety and physical pain by offering our patients a wide range of complementary therapies including aromatherapy massage, reflexology and Indian head massage, all known to help calm and soothe. Family and friends are then able to relax also, safe in the knowledge that their loved one is being sincerely cared for. Families often tell us they wish they had contacted us sooner as our care has not only lifted the patient’s spirits but also a huge weight from everyone’s shoulders.

The gift of laughter - £30

People often perceive a hospice as sad and depressing, here at Dove House that is not the case. We offer various therapies and pastimes to brighten our patients days, whether they’re staying with us a while or visiting our day therapy unit there is something for everyone. Activities include music therapy, art therapy and for those that are up for a real giggle there’s our Nintendo Wii. Therapies such as these offer new ways to express feelings and communicate concerns, patients can then relax a little and begin to feel human again. There’s always an activity available for every level of ability and our fantastic team of nurses are always on hand to share a joke or two whilst ensuring that patients are comfortable and happy whilst in our care.

The gift of a good nights sleep - £40

We all know how important it is to get a good nights rest, even more so when we’re unwell or when relied upon to care for another. A good nights sleep ensures we are able to cope better with emotional or physical difficulties that the day ahead may bring. We offer our patients a warm and comfortable bed with clean linen, plumped up pillows and a peaceful atmosphere to help aid rest. Relatives are also able to sleep easier knowing that their loved one is safe and content. We pride ourselves on making a patients experience as relaxing as possible and they’re welcome to bring in their own home comforts. A former patient brought in his fish tank complete with the familiar hum of the bubbling water filter, which helped him drift off into a cosy slumber each night.

The gift of safe hands - £50

We all need a hand to hold when times are hard. Patients at Dove House can rest assured that they are in safe and capable hands, gaining constant expert care from our medical team and our wonderful team of nurses. Each patient gains specialised treatment and support tailored to their individual needs. Our support also reaches out to the whole family, relatives can access help via our family support team who are here to listen and offer advice on everything from financial worries to future plans.

The gift of time - £60

The gift of time can be the most precious a person can give. Time is valuable to us all but no more so than when a loved one is seriously ill or in need of 24 hour care. Every day people take on the role of carer without question however this can be a huge responsibility. We are here to ease some of the pressure involved.

To help both the patient and the carer we offer essential respite. Patients are able to stay with us for several days while their carer can enjoy some free time knowing that their loved one is in safe hands. Alternatively patients can visit our day therapy unit giving a carer time to do the weekly shop, visit friends or see their own GP.

Our main focus however is to give families some quality time together. When a loved one is seriously ill the last thing people want is restricted visiting hours. Here, families are welcome to visit patients any time of the day. They can enjoy a home cooked meal together, watch their favourite TV programme or relax in our beautiful gardens. Families can also stay at the hospice in our self-contained flat, which is especially designed for families to be near their loved ones at all times.
