Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy is used here at Dove House Hospice to help patients improve their physical abilities and promote independence using a variety of different treatments. It is available to our patients in the Inpatient Unit and those visiting the Day Therapy Unit and can also be accessed separately via an Outpatients appointment. The physiotherapists work on a one to one basis or within a group setting.
Treatments:
- Breathlessness Clinic - aims to help patients who have a condition where breathlessness is a particular problem. Patients usually attend three sessions with each session lasting approximately 45
minutes. - Mobility treatments - the physiotherapists give advice on mobility and do exercises like pacing/walking, climbing stairs, breathing control and anxiety management with the patients.
- Anxiety treatments - anxiety is common amongst people who have a life limiting illness and can often cause panic attacks. Our physiotherapy team use a positive copy strategy tool, the Calming Hand, to help the patient gain a sense of control and thus reduces their anxiety/panic.
- Acupuncture - is one of the oldest recorded forms of medicine where fine needles are inserted into specific points on the body. Acupuncture can help with pain relief, anxiety, fatigue, nausea and vomiting and neck and back conditions.
