Lottery Volunteer Anne

"I was inspired to start volunteering when my father had a brain tumor as it would have been great to have had somewhere like Dove House Hospice for him to go and be safely looked after whilst Mum had a day to rest. I became a volunteer because I couldn’t do a job due to my husband’s work and so I volunteered whilst the children were at school and haven’t looked back, I love the contact with such nice people!
"I started as a volunteer driver but then my husband retired so we only had one car available. I had just completed a word processing course, so I decided that I would put this to good use in administration. I volunteered for a year in the fundraising department and then I joined the lottery department when it was set up and I have been there ever since. I work on the computers inputting cheques and generally helping out in the office and I absolutely love it!
"I think anyone should give volunteering a go. In my case I do it for the friendship and, being retired, it gives me pride knowing I can still be of use in the community. I also really like knowing that the work I do helps raise money to contribute towards the welfare of the patients – that gives me great pride.
"I think everyone has something to offer as a volunteer and Dove House Hospice certainly put my time and talents to good use!
