Visiting Hours
If you have a loved one who is staying in our Inpatient Unit you are welcome to visit any time up until 9pm (in special circumstances this may be extended) just come into reception and explain that you are here to visit a patient and the friendly receptionist will sign you in and show you where to go. Some people get nervous or worried when it is their first visit, don't worry as everyone at the hospice is happy to help you and wants you to enjoy spending time with your loved one.
Facilities available for you to use
- Kitchen Area - there is a small kitchen area in the Inpatient Unit where you are free to make a drink at your own convenience (no charge but a donation is appreciated). There is also a fridge where you can store your own foods or bring in foods for your loved one (please not that patients are provided with meals so you don't have to worry about bringing lots of food but sometimes particular favourite foods are a nice treat for
patients). - Living Room - we have a living room area that is shared by all our patients but you are welcome to sit with your loved one and watch the television or have a chat in here.
- Conservatories - each room has a conservatory area adjoining it and you are welcome to spend time with your loved one in these so you can spend time away from their bed if they're able to.
- Gardens - Dove House Hospice has some beautiful gardens so please feel free to spend time in these. Please note we do have a large fish pond so we ask that children are supervised whilst in this area.
- York Room - this is our multi-faith room and is a peaceful space that can be used for quite reflection as well as prayers etc...... Anyone is welcome to spend time in here whatever their religious views.
- Meals - you are welcome to order a meal from our catering department (there will be a small charge). You are free to enjoy your meal either in the Inpatient Unit sitting room or at your loved ones bedside.
- Princess Diana Suite - if your situation is appropriate arrangements can be made for you to stay at the hospice so you are close to your loved one. We have a self enclosed flat for families to use for this purpose.
Here at Dove House Hospice we try to go the extra mile to help our patients and their families and realise the importance of being close at such a difficult time. For this reason we are always striving to find new ways of making it easier for families and friends to be together. Our most recent addition is a special double bed which allows a couple to stay together overnight or a family to all sit on it and watch a film together!
